The Ghost of Johnny Carson
Wow! Brilliant, that is all that I can say. A very creative scenario yet I do not see where everyone is saying that Dave is angry. Has he been acting like a boob at times? Sure. But he has been doing his schtick for 30 years and now has more competition that is surely paling in comparison to his true talent. I don’t know what Johnny would think if he were still alive. At one point when Dave was going through a meltdown in ‘95 or ‘96 around the time “Late Show” started losing to Leno, Mr. Carson was rumored as being “disappointed and worried.”
Truth be told, Dave is doing more shows at this point in career than Johnny ever did. Perhaps it is time for him to start cutting back, introducing guest hosts and return to being happy funny Dave that he was when he first moved to CBS.
Oh, the other point. There are now at least six late night talk/variety shows on in this time slot. Johnny never had this kind of competition and when he did, wiped them all out which makes one wonder what kind of politcs were in play. “The Late Show with David Letterman” is still a classy, well produced show but like many others, is probably trying to find its identity in an ever evolving new media universe with tons of other shows in the same genre.
